The purpose of connecting with God, God's community and the world is to impact our lives, our church and our world by living out the love, grace and truth of Jesus.  We offer these Scriptures, thoughts and ideas to encourage us all to "be doers of the word and not hearers only."

SCRIPTURE FOR THE WEEK:

Psalm 77:13-15 Your ways, O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God?  You are the God who performs miracles;you display your power among the peoples. With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.  NIV

Do you know your Bible:   A man was standing downtown waiting for a bus. It was raining cats and dogs. A lady was standing next to me, so he tried to be friendly and make conversation. "If it keeps raining like this, we'll have to buy an ark," He said. "What's an ark?" she asked. "You mean you haven't heart about Noah and the ark and the great flood and all those animals?" He asked incredulously. "Look," she replied, "I've only been in town for four days. I've scarcely had time to read the paper."

Results of the neglect of prayer:   I felt a suspicious "bump" as I pulled my car into the driveway anc came to a stop in our carport.  One of the rear tires was flat, exposing the metal cord in the steel-belted radial.  The next morning, when I visited the tire dealer, I noticed the same brand of tire on the other side of the car showed no such wear.  I asked why?  My friend explained that a nail had stuck in the rubber and transferred rust to the steal belts, weakening the interior of the tire.  That in turn caused the belt and tread to separate.  Just a nail and a little rust.  Unconfessed sin in the heart is like rust on the steel belts.  Over time our love for the Lord grows weaker and weaker, interest in the Word of God declines; prayer becomes less important.

Outline for prayer time: Quiet yourself (be still); examine your life and confess any sin; empty your heart of all that draws you from Jesus; Submit your life to Jesus; Center your heart on his Cross; Read a verse or two of Scripture and Listen (be still again); respond to his moving; Praise Him, Thank Him; Pray for others and their needs; Write in your journal any thoughts; stop and listen once again.

What do you think? "If we are to be filled with a prayerful spirit, we must know ourselves."  William Law
